Georgian Oak Dresser Base (England, circa 1750)
Georgian Oak Dresser Base (England, circa 1750)
A Charming Mid 19th Century George II Period Oak Dresser Base, Of Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Well Figured Top Over Three Drawers To Frieze With Replacement Brass Handles And Two Cupboard Doors Below With Attractive Shaped Fielded Panels.
Dressers are one of the most loved, most common and and also most versatile pieces of antique furniture which money can buy and have nearly always been well used in their previous lives with many a fine story to tell!
This example is no different, boasting a good practical size, with lots of options for storage and retaining a lovely untouched colour and patina which really makes it stand out. The handles are replacements but in the original style and its worth noting that there are no locks, just blanked plates where the locks would normally sit which is quite a charming feature in all honesty.
Dressers were made throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and a large proportion of them originally started life in two parts with a plate rack above the base, but not all, and it is now more common to find them without the racks as so many have been discarded throughout the years.
They can be used in many different places around the home including kitchens, hallways, living rooms and dining rooms as an alternative option to the traditional sideboard on legs.
