Georgian Mahogany Octagonal Lamp Table (England, circa 1800)
Georgian Mahogany Octagonal Lamp Table (England, circa 1800)
A Very Fine Quality George III Period, Late 18th Century Mahogany Wine Table, Or Lamp Table, Having Well Figured Octagonal Tilting Top Retaining Excellent Colour And Patina, Raised On Elegant Turned And Carved Central Column, With Four Moulded Splay Legs Terminating On Original Turned Feet And Original Brass Castors.
This is an incredibly elegant little table which has been constructed from rich, dense, high quality mahogany timbers. Those timbers retain a lovely rich colour and patina and the table exudes class and sophistication.
Clearly constructed in one of the top workshops of the late 18th, or early 19th, centuries the table features an octagonal top, a lovely turned column with attractive carved decoration and quite unusually a four splay base, rather that the infinitely more common three splay tripod base which was popular during this period. Aside from elegance the four legs instead of three also serve great function, making the table much sturdier and therefore much more capable than some of its three legged counterparts which you will find.
Perfect for such a host of spaces around the home we think this table would really be the making of any room, whatever the intended purpose. It is also a great size, not so large as to be overpowering, but comfortably large enough to actually be useful.
As with all items which we offer for sale this little georgian table has been inspected by our highly skilled, trained, traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure its in its best possible condition before being offered for sale.
