George 1 Mahogany Serving Table (England, circa 1720)

SOLD

An Extremely Rare Early 18th Century, George 1 Period Mahogany Serving Table Of Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Superbly Figured, Shaped Frieze Raised On Four Elegant, Bold, Cabriole Legs Terminating With Well Carved Ball And Claw Feet.

This is a quite exceptional example of its type, executed using rich, well figured mahogany and constructed in the manner of a number of the top cabinet makers from the early 18th century.

Clearly it has been well loved and cherished throughout its 300 years of existence as the surface boasts simply the most fantastic, rich, warm colour and patina which can only be achieved through hundreds of years of dirt, dust, grim building up and wax polish being applied, it’s impossible to recreate this effect.

Also for a large, relatively plain piece of furniture this table has real elegance, which is of course aided by the cabriole legs front and back. Again these are another defining feature which are not often found, or more often that not when they are they will have significant damage to them.

Overall the condition of this item is exceptional and exactly as a collector would hope to find it. It has been lightly polished with natural beeswax in our workshops and is now ready to be placed straight into the home environment.

This is an item which both collectors and furnishers alike can equally treasure as it has such a wealth of potential functions, uses and spots which it can be used in, yet it is also so rare to find one of these in such exceptional condition. Despite us describing it as a Georgian Serving Table, it could also be simply described as a Georgian Side Table, or even a Georgian Console Table, with the plethora of uses available from it almost limitless.

We don’t expect this to be around for long, so if you have a good home for it act quickly and secure it before somebody else does. If you miss out on it then it is not something we will be able to find another similar of for you any time soon we can’t imagine.
