A Very Fine Quality Regency Period Rosewood End Table, Or Occasional Lamp Table, Having Superbly Figured Rectangular Top, Raised On Incredibly Elegant Scrolling Swept End Supports, Terminating On Four Foliate Carved Cabriole Legs, United By Turned Cross Stretcher.

Dating from the early part of the 19th century, this really is an exceptionally elegant little table, with considerably more refinement and decorative detail than one normally finds on occasional tables of this type.

Constructed from extremely good quality rosewood throughout, the rectangular top displays superb natural figuring and retains a lovely rich colour and surface. The timber has been particularly well selected and the relatively restrained top provides a wonderful contrast to the much more elaborate base below.

The end supports are very attractive, with the slender uprights having wonderfully executed scrolling terminals to both the top and bottom. These flow into beautifully shaped bases with carved decoration, before terminating on four elegant foliate carved cabriole legs with scrolling feet. The turned cross stretcher which unites the two ends is equally well executed and completes the design particularly nicely.

It is the combination of these delicate proportions, excellent quality timber and unusually sophisticated decoration which really sets this table apart. There is an almost architectural quality to the end supports, whilst the carved legs and numerous scrolling details give the whole piece a great deal of movement without ever appearing overly elaborate.

Tables of this size are always incredibly useful around the home and this example would work perfectly as an end table alongside a settee or armchair, or alternatively as an occasional lamp table. Its relatively narrow proportions also make it particularly useful where space is limited, whilst the quality and decorative nature of the base ensure that it remains attractive from virtually every angle.

As with all items which we offer for sale, this table has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled and traditional antique furniture restorers, where it has received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale. It is therefore ready to place straight into the home.
