Superb Quality Regency Rosewood Breakfront Side Cabinet, Early 19th Century (England, circa 1815)

£14,000.00

An Exceptionally Fine Quality Early 19th Century Regency Period Rosewood Breakfront Side Cabinet, Or Sideboard, Having Very Attractive Replacement Marble Top, Over Frieze Profusely Inlaid With Intricate Brass Decoration And Four Doors With Pleated Silk Panels, Enclosing Adjustable Shelves, Flanked By Turned Columns Headed And Footed By Wonderfully Chased Brass Capitals, Raised On Original Turned And Lobed Feet.

This really is an exceptional quality cabinet, almost certainly produced in one of the leading cabinetmaking workshops of the period. The quality of the rosewood veneers and the wonderfully intricate brass inlaid decoration are particularly impressive, whilst the elegant breakfront design and unusual original lobed feet give the piece a great deal of character and presence.

The replacement marble top is both attractive and practical, complementing the rich colour of the rosewood and contrasting beautifully with the brass decoration. The four cupboards provide a generous amount of useful storage, with adjustable shelves allowing for a variety of uses. The pleated silk panels also lend a lovely softness to the overall appearance.

Cabinets of this quality are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly examples retaining such an abundance of fine decorative detail. Despite its impressive appearance, this is also an extremely versatile piece of furniture, equally suited to use as a sideboard in a dining room, a statement cabinet in a drawing room, or even in a large entrance hall.

The cabinet retains a good rich colour and surface throughout, with just a tiny selection of old marks, scuffs and minor imperfections associated with age and use to be found, all blending in nicely. It has been attended to in our workshops by our skilled traditional antique furniture restorers, received an appropriate natural wax polish and is ready to be placed in the home.
