Mahogany Childs Wellington Chest (England, circa 1900)
Mahogany Childs Wellington Chest (England, circa 1900)
An Attractive And Unusual Early 20th Century Mahogany Childs Wellington Chest, Having Panelled Sides And Seven Drawers, Retaining Original Turned Wooden Knobs, Enclosed By Hinged Pilasters, With Removable Writing Slope To Bottom Drawer.
Childs size examples of the typical wellington chest of drawers are generally much rarer to find than their full size counterparts, particularly those that are constructed from a particularly unusual wood, or that are of much better quality than the norm, which this example is both of.
Constructed from a good grade of mahogany it also boasts excellent quality oak drawer linings and therefore the drawers still run beautifully making it most fit for pupose indeed. There is also the incredibly unusual additional benefit of an independent writing slope being built into the bottom drawer, which can be moved around and used anywhere that is required.
This is an incredibly useful, functional and practical piece of furniture around the modern home of course, absolutely perfect for a whole host of places, including as a coffee table beside a settee or chair, as a bedside table, or even as an additional storage piece in a bedroom or office, offering great solutions.
The item comes with working lock and key and just like all the items which we offer for sale it has been attended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled and trained, traditional antique furniture restorers, where it has received a general clean and tidy plus natural beeswax to ensure it is ready for immediate use once sold.
