A Stunning Late 18th Century French Provincial Louis XVI Period Cherry Wood Side Table, Retaining Quite Exceptional Untouched Colour And Surface Throughout, Having Wonderfully Figured Panelled Shaped Top, Over Elegantly Shaped Frieze With One Drawer And Moulded Decoration, Raised On Four Slender Moulded Cabriole Legs Terminating On Original Hoof Feet.

Dating from the latter part of the 18th century, this really is an exceptionally charming French provincial table, possessing all of the individuality and character which makes untouched country furniture of this type so desirable.

Constructed from cherry wood throughout, undoubtedly the most outstanding feature is the quite exceptional colour and surface which it has developed over more than 200 years. The wonderfully figured top retains a huge amount of natural character, with numerous old marks, stains, scratches and imperfections accumulated through generations of use. Importantly these have not been over restored or polished away and the table retains a wonderfully honest, untouched appearance throughout.

This sits above an unusually elegant frieze, incorporating one useful drawer with moulded decoration and a particularly pretty shaped apron below. The four exceptionally slender cabriole legs are equally appealing, with their restrained moulded decoration and original hoof feet giving the table a wonderfully light and elegant appearance.

Although unmistakably French in its design, there is a simplicity and informality to provincial furniture such as this which allows it to sit extremely comfortably in both traditional and more contemporary interiors. Its relatively shallow proportions also make it particularly versatile, whether used as a side table, hall table, serving table, or perhaps positioned behind a settee.

A really lovely example, combining elegant late 18th century French design with the warmth, individuality and quite exceptional untouched surface which can only really be acquired through centuries of use.

As with all our items this table has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled and trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale. It is therefore ready to place straight into the home.
