An Extremely Attractive George I Period Walnut Dressing Table Mirror, Having Probably Original Mirror Plate, Set Within Attractive Carved Fretwork And Moulded Swing Frame, Over Elegant Stepped Bas, Having Five Drawers And One Central Cupboard Door With Herringbone Banded Decoration And Original Brasswear, Raised On Original Shaped Ogee Bracket Feet.

Dressing table mirrors, often referred to as “toilet mirrors”were made from the beginning of the 18th Century onwards.

Designed to sit atop a dressing table, or chest of drawers, in the bedroom or dressing room they are found in a huge variety of sizes, woods, shapes, sizes and qualities.

This example is particularly attractive and nice because it is relatively early when compared to most, dating to the early 18th Century and also it is constructed slightly differently to most that you will see in terms of the drawers being arranged around a central cupboard door, which really adds to the overall aesthetics of the peace.

Although originally designed to sit on top of a dressing table it is of course most versatile and would suit a whole variety of locations around the home.

The mirror plate could well be original and has certainly aged appropriately, but we cannot be certain of its originality. It is still very much fit for its original purpose however despite the signs of age. Overall the item is in very good condition with just a few knicks, scrapes, scratches, scuffs and old historic repairs. It also appears that a couple of the feet may have lost a slither of wood from the bottom of them.

As with all the items which we offer for sale it has been naturally wax polished, in our workshops, by our highly skilled furniture restorers, before being offered for sale, ensuring that it is ready for immediate use.
