French 19th Century Farmhouse Dining Table (France, circa 1860)
French 19th Century Farmhouse Dining Table (France, circa 1860)
An Extremely Attractive Mid 19th Century French Chestnut Farmhouse Dining Table, Of Good Large Proportions, Having Well Figured Plank Top Retaining Exceptional Warm Colour And Patina, With One Drawer To Frieze Raised On Square Tapered Legs.
The epitome of simple elegance, versatility and function this 19th century French farmhouse dining table is of typical design and boasts an wonderful rich colour and patina. This in part can be attributed to the fact it is constructed from Chestnut which is generally a more decorative wood than most of the more commonly used fruitwoods.
It has been well used throughout the years and of course there is evidence of this, but it has also been well loved and cared for and is in good condition.
The table can very comfortably seat 8 people, but due to it’s larger than average size it would also seat 10 pretty comfortably as shown in the attached image.
There are no awkward, low stretchers between the legs making it awkward to sit at and at some point historically somebody has sympathetically added an inch or two to the bottom of the legs, replacing the wood which has no doubt rotted away after spending a large part of its early life standing on damp, stone floors. This of course means there is more than adequate clearance from the floor to the undercarriage of the table when it is being sat at.
Ready to place straight into the home, this farm table has been attended to in the traditional manner at our workshops before being offered for sale, by our highly trained and skilled antique furniture restorers including a light clean and natural wax polish to ensure that it is in good, retail condition.
