Rare Regency Mahogany Double Sided Freestanding Open Bookcase (England, circa 1820)
An Extremely Rare And Exceptional Quality Regency Period
Mahogany Double Sided Freestanding Open Bookcase Having
Superbly Figured Galleried Top Raised On Elegant Turned And
Reeded Supports With Spindle Turned Divisions Terminating
On Bulbous Turned Feet With Original Brass Castors
(This wonderful object displays all the characteristics and quality
that you would expect from the workshop of renowned Lancaster
furniture makers Gillows, however it is not stamped and is such
an unusual design that there is not anything we can reference it
against to give a firm attribution. The quality of the Mahogany is
absolutely superb and the elegance of the turned columns and
spindle supports is as good as anybody could wish to see this item
would be a wonderful addition to any collection of fine furniture.
From a practical perspective it is a nice small size whilst still being
big enough to be practical and usable. The overall condition is
excellent with no structural defects or restoration to speak of and
the item retains a lovely rich colour and patina)
