Makers Stamp To Underside – Gill & Reigate, London.
Gill & Reigate were a respected English furniture-making and decorating firm active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, best known for producing high-quality antique and reproduction furniture in the Georgian and Regency taste. The company earned a strong reputation for fine craftsmanship, elegant proportions, and the use of quality timbers and decorative finishes, often supplying fashionable homes and country houses during the Edwardian period. Pieces bearing the Gill & Reigate label are now sought after by collectors and dealers for their refined interpretation of earlier English styles, combining traditional cabinet-making techniques with the practicality and taste demanded by their contemporary clientele.
Dating to the early 2oth century, these tables are very good quality, incredibly elegant and extremely useful indeed.
The top of each table is constructed from superbly figured, rich walnut timbers with elegant cross banded decoration and some extremely unusual herringbone banding, which is a feature more commonly found on Queen Anne period walnut items of furniture. The combination of these features creates a really lovely and decorative top to each table.
The tables are in good, solid, functional condition, with very little restoration or existing damage to speak of. It is worth noting that we have had many similar nests of this period and it’s not that often that they are found without rudimentary repairs to smashed legs, or with tops that have faded to totally different colour, split, or just generally look different. Its therefore clear that this particular nest has been well loved, cherished and used throughout its life.
As with all items which we offer for sale they have been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers who have tightened the joints, cleaned and naturally waxed them to ensure they are presented in retail condition and ready to be placed straight into use.
Perfect for a whole variety of spaces around the home they will add a touch of elegance, class and function to absolutely any room around the home.
