Mahogany Early 19th Century Georgian Antique Oval Butlers Tray On Stand (England, circa 1800)
A Very Good Quality George III Period Mahogany Oval Butlers
Tray Of Unusual Panelled Construction With Folding Sides
Retaining Unusual Original Hinges Housed On Later Square
Leg Mahogany Stand
(Always a good answer to the age old problem of their
being no such thing as what we regard a coffee table
these days in the 18th and 19th centuries. They simply
didn’t make coffee tables at that height. As is the case
with most of these that you will see, this butlers tray has
been removed from it’s original folding waist height stand
and placed onto a stand of lower height to make it into
an extremely useful coffee table. The stand is well executed
and was probably made at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries.
The tray itself has some extremely unusual hinges which appear
to almost be double sided and also the panelled construction is of
two slightly larger panels, as opposed to the usual four
smaller panels which again is a nice feature and slightly
different to the norm)
