Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Hexagonal Tea Caddy

Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Hexagonal Tea Caddy (England, circa 1780)

SOLD

A Very Attractive Late 18th Century Mahogany Tea
Caddy, Unusually Of Hexagonal Form, Having Inlaid
And Crossbanded Decoration With Working Lock
And Key

(This is quite an unusual example, constructed from a good
grade of mahogany with various different inlays incorporated.
The overall condition is good and it comes with a fully
functioning lock and key. The hexagonal shape is also quite
rare and not often found. Tea was of course a precious commodity
in the 18th century and tea caddies were used to both preserve
the tea leaves, but also to lock it away and protect it from any wandering
hands.)
