English 19th Century Victorian Satinbirch Pedestal Desk (England, circa 1850)
English 19th Century Victorian Satinbirch Pedestal Desk (England, circa 1850)
A superb quality mid-19th century satinbirch wood
pedestal desk having replacement tooled leather inset
to crossbanded top over nine frieze drawers with
later brass knobs to front and a well veneered
reverse raised on original plinth base
(The perfect size desk for one person in almost any size office
this charming mid-19th century desk is of very good quality and
due to the rarely found satinbirch veneers it has a silky, mellow
appearance which would match into absolutely any existing color
scheme or environment. Clearly a well thought out piece that has been
made with no expense spared to is also nice to discover that it has
solid mahogany drawer linings which ensure the drawers still run
incredibly smoothly even to this day and also to discover that the
back has been just as well veneered as the front and sides
allowing the desk not only to be used against a wall, but
also just as happily in the center of a room where it is visible
from all perspectives. The leather has been recently replaced and
is therefore in exceptional condition and the desk is very much
ready to be placed straight into a home, or office, where it can
start being used immediately as of course it is more
than fit for its original function.
