Firmly attributed To “Gillows, Lancaster” (This wonderful quality cabinet can be firmly attributed to the renowned Lancaster cabinet making firm of Gillows on the basis it is of identical form, structure and quality to various other examples that have either been sold on the open market or illustrated in relatively recent times which were either stamped Gillows, or known to have originated from the,. It is accepted as fact that Gillows did not stamp, or sign, a large proportion of the output from their Lancaster workshops. In terms of the piece itself there is no doubt that it is of the utmost quality using wonderful satinwood that would have been incredibly expensive to buy at the end of the 18th century when it was only just starting to be shipped into UK shores.).
