English 18th Century Georgian Mahogany Pedestal Partners Desk (England, circa 1760)
A rare 18th century mahogany Georgian pedestal partners desk having recently replaced tooled leather inset to crossbanded top over nine superbly figured drawers with later brass handles to front and three drawers over panelled cupboard doors to reverse raised on original plinth base circa 1760 Measures: Height 31.5in Width 53in Depth 29in Kneehole dimensions: Height 25in x width 21in (Desks are functional pieces of furniture and generally heavily used throughout the years, hence why not many examples from the 18th century have survived in any kind of sensible condition. This particular example has beautifully figured drawers and cupboard doors and the replacement brass handles have clearly been in place for some time, are of the style it would originally have had and fit exceptionally well with the piece. The desk is also a good functional size for the modern home or office and not overpoweringly big like a lot that come to market. Also it handily breaks down into 3 sections, which many 18th century examples don’t, making it easy to get into even the most challenging of environments).
