Early 18th Century Georgian Oak Dresser Base (England, circa 1730)
Early 18th Century Georgian Oak Dresser Base (England, circa 1730)
A Very Attractive Early 18th Century George II Period Oak Dresser Base, Retaining Good Rich Colour, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Three Drawers To Frieze With Original Brass Plate Handles, Raised On Elegant Turned Upright Supports United By Low Square Stretchers And Turned Feet.
This dresser base is a little earlier than many you will find available for sale, dating to the early George III period, whereas a large proportion are late 18th, or early 19th centuries. This earlier construction date allowed for the use of richer and denser oak timbers which has resulted in a lovely rich colour.
Unusually this dresser also retains its original brasswear, which is something rarely found on dresser bases and a really nice extra feature to have and there is very little other historical damage to speak of.
As with all dresser bases the proportions mean that it is suitable for a huge variety of different spaces and uses around the home, both modern and historic. It would work wonderfully in a hallway along the wall, or similar on a landing, or alternatively as a sideboard in a kitchen or dining room, or even on the back of a settee in a more formal room. We have even known people to use them upstairs in a bedroom when they have a large amount of wall space to fill.
As with all items which we offer for sale this dresser base has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has recieved a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home environment.
