Calamander Wood Regency Period Oblong Antique Lamp Table (England, circa 1810)
Calamander Wood Regency Period Oblong Antique Lamp Table (England, circa 1810)
An exceptional quality regency period calamander wood lamp Table having superbly figured top with brass moulded decoration And one frieze drawer over simulated and parcel gilt turned Central support terminating on quad form base with four Original brass paw feet. (Calamander is an extremely valuable wood which was originally found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It has a contrasting hazel-brown colour with black grain. It is a dense, heavy wood that became so popular it’s been logged to extinction over the last few hundred years and is generally now not available to purchase in its raw state. This of course makes antique furniture pieces which have been constructed from it even more valuable and special due to their ever increasing rarity. This wonderful table also retains a trade label and original purchase invoice from the famous London furniture specialists “Norman Adams Ltd” who dealt at the very top end of the English trade for around 8 decades, finally closing their doors for business in circa 2009. According to the original invoice the table was purchased from then in May 1959 for the then princely sum of £145. What a lovely piece of history and provenance to go alongside this beautiful table!).
