18th Century Georgian Mahogany Small Chest Of Drawers (England, circa 1740)
18th Century Georgian Mahogany Small Chest Of Drawers (England, circa 1740)
A Delightful George II Period Mahogany Chest Of Diminutive
Proportions Having Well Figured Cleated Top Over Two Short
And Three Long Drawers Retaining Original Brass Handles &
Escutcheons Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet
(At a touch under 2ft 6in wide this chest is just about as small as
it’s possible to find from the mid 18th century and is an absolute
charmer. Constructed from a good quality choice of timber, the
overall theme of quality is very much re-endorsed by the “cleated”,
which means “framed” top to reduce movement in the wood over the
years. It retains its original brasswear and feet and has a particularly
unusual moulding above the feet which to the best of our knowledge
is quite unique. All of the above, combined of course with the size make
this an incredibly desirable, useful and functional little chest that has a
use in so many different places around the home. )
