18th Century English Walnut Antique Stool (England, circa 1720)
A Delightful George 1st Period Early 18th Century
Walnut Stool Having Needlepoint Tapestry Drop In
Seat Raised On Four Elegant Cabriole Legs With
Foliate Carved Decoration And Pointed Pad Feet
(A great example of the height of early Georgian
elegance this simple, but rather charming stool has
stood the test of time remarkably well. It is constructed
from well figured, rich walnut and has very little structural
defects of consequence for an item of this age. There are
of course the usual blemishes, scuffs, scrapes, missing
chunks here and there that you would expect, but all of this
very much adds to the overall character. The needlepoint
seat covering is almost certainly not the original, but is an
old example and works well on the piece. That said with the
seat being of the drop in type it is very easy and inexpensive
for the end user to have the needlepoint removed and changed
for any fabric of their choice in the future. A simple, but incredibly
charming piece of early 18th century craftsmanship.)
