18th Century English Georgian Mahogany Double Chest of Drawers (England, circa 1760)
18th Century English Georgian Mahogany Double Chest of Drawers (England, circa 1760)
A delightful 18th century Georgian Chippendale period mahogany chest having oblong top over unusual configuration of ten oak lined short drawers, each with original brass handles, retaining exceptional untouched color and patina throughout raised on its original plinth base. (A most unusual configuration of drawers which is rarely, if ever, seen on chests of drawers from this period in combination with the overall quality, originality and function that this piece offers makes for a handsome but also practical and functional piece indeed. The beautifully crafted oak drawer linings ensure that the drawers still run as smoothly as the day it was made and the overall proportions whilst relatively large are not overpoweringly so and this means it would fit into many a different space in many a different room. Another lovely feature is the fact it retains its original brass handles, original plinth base and is a very untouched colour and patina. Clearly the piece has been well loved as well as well used throughout its 250 year or so history).
