18th Century English Antique Mahogany Bombe Shaped Tea Caddy (England, circa 1750)
A Very Attractive George II Period English Antique Mahogany
18th Century Tea Caddy Of Bombe Shape Retaining Good Colour
And Patina With Original Brass Handle And Escutcheon
Raised On Original Ogee Bracket Feet
( Dating to the middle of the 18th century this charming tea caddy
retains a lovely warm colour to the mahogany and has clearly been
much loved throughout its life. Of course tea was a valuable
commodity during the 18th and 19th centuries, hence the invention
of the tea caddy which was somewhere to not just store it, but also
to keep it safe from wandering hands. This one is also particularly
unusual in terms of the shape, which is referred to as “bombe” and
is defined by the outward bulge of the design. It is also a nice
feature to have retained the original brass wear and feet on an item
of this age that would of course have been in use day in day out for
a large proportion of its life. It also comes with fully operational key)
